Duckon Was Fun!

Jim Humble & DavidWe did not get to enjoy as much of the con as we would have liked because we were also visiting family in the area but we did enjoy the Art Show and the Tesla Coil concert.  Duckon Art Show awards a small little trophy for "Best in Show" and "Fan Favorite".  These are based on popular vote and I won the "Fan Favorite" for my Dragon Head Trophy.

MARCON 45 2010

This years Marcon was a blast.  There were more hall costumes then I had ever seen at a convention.  We especially enjoyed the Doctor Nefarious costume by Fyberdyne and Bob Vaillencourt.  The workmanship was stunning.  Richard Hatch of Battle Star Gallactica fame made a hall appearance and was one of the Masquerade judges.

However the Art Show seemed to be lacking.  Gone, I suppose, are the Sci-fi convention art shows of yesteryear when stunning works would sell for 1000s of dollars.  Still I enjoyed the works presented.  I was pleased that there was a greater representation of fine art vs. fan art.  I enjoy both but I want to expand as artist and so welcome the trend towards fine art. Enjoy the photos.

Angels & Dragons

I have another website. The official David Lee Pancake Art Gallery and online store is located at www.angels-n-dragons.com

This website, davidpancake.com, serves as my personal blog.  You will find that I get a bit carefree here. You will see my latest experiments, find my tutorials, entertain a few philosophical thoughts and find a few things for sale here that are not on the official website.  But if you want to show a friend my artwork in its best possible light take a look at angels-n-dragons.com.  Check it out today!  and Thanks!

Welcome to My World

Welcome. Have you ever put a great project off because you just wanted it to be as perfect as it could be only to have time slip uncontrollably away from your grasp? Well, I have planned this site over and over in my mind and I was getting no closer to actually having a website. I wanted a bunch of fancy flash on the front page and cool artwork to adorn every facet of the website. In my mind I had all kinds of cool stuff in the website but in the end I decided that something was better then the ethereal idea of something. So here is my website.

Commissioned Art

Hello, do you have a special character, project or a pet that you would like to have immortalized in sculpture?  I do take on the challenge of a limited number of artwork requests each year.  Please use my contact form and tell me about your project.  I will give you an estimate and we can proceed from there.  I would love to work with you.  Thank you for your interest in my art.

2010 - Year of Creativity

Every New Year's Eve we go through the same process of making New Year's resolutions. Always before I have made resolutions that were very hard to keep. Like "I will loose 50 lbs." or "I will break that one bad habit" and then you know what inevitably would happen, I would break the resolution.

Wolfman in Progress

I will be attending this years Marcon, a Science Fiction Convention and Art Show held annually in Columbus, Ohio. The theme of the convention is "Necropolis, Year of Horror". I am planning several sculptures for this theme. The first is my wolfman. I will be casting this sculpture in a limited edition run of 200. I hoping to have it ready for the convention in May. Sabertooth Skull

My Daughter wanted a sabertooth tiger skull so I sculpted one for her Christmas Gift this year. Now how many fathers out there has a daughter that likes to decorate her house with sabertooth tiger skulls? (click on the images below to view a larger image)

Human Seduction

This sculpture started as an abstract. Unfortunately my crazy brain kept insisting on making it "real". So this is what you get.

Paper Mache Dragon Sculpture

Here is my very first attempt at paper mache sculpture.

Here is the beginning of the project:
